Features a removable swap battery
with dual charging capability —
charge by swapping or charge directly without removal.

The i-Cargo is equipped with a removable swappable battery system designed to overcome the common limitations of electric mobility.
Just like replacing the battery of an electric bicycle, you can easily swap a depleted battery pack with a fully charged one — minimizing downtime and maximizing efficiency.

In the near future, that may well become the voice heard throughout our cities.

Of course, i-Cargo also supports conventional plug-in charging.
Simply connect a standard charging plug directly to the vehicle body — the method widely used in traditional EVs.

Accessible to Everyone — i-Cargo

One of the key advantages of i-Cargo is that it can be driven by anyone who holds a standard driver’s license in Japan.

No motorcycle or scooter license is required.
As long as you have a regular automobile driver’s license, women, seniors, and first-time EV users can operate i-Cargo with confidence and ease.

Legal Classification in Japan
In order to operate a vehicle on public roads in Japan, two primary laws apply:
The Road Traffic Act, which governs driver licensing and traffic regulations
The Road Transport Vehicle Act, which regulates vehicle design and safety standards

Under these regulations:
i-Cargo is classified as an “automobile” under the Road Traffic Act
And as a “light motorcycle with sidecar” (three-wheeled light motorcycle) under the Road Transport Vehicle Act
Therefore, a standard automobile driver’s license is required to operate i-Cargo on public roads.

i-Cargo was developed as a compact commercial BEV designed specifically for everyday last-mile logistics.

Demand for last-mile delivery — an essential part of modern life — surged dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the rapid growth of stay-at-home consumption.
Driven largely by expanding e-commerce transactions, this demand is expected to continue increasing in the years ahead.

To support the rapidly increasing volume of individual deliveries, two key requirements were essential:

Sufficient payload capacity to handle growing shipment volumes

Powerful motor output capable of transporting those loads efficiently

Vehicle Classification

  • Vehicle Classification

    Registered as a Sidecar-Type Light Motorcycle, this vehicle is issued a white license plate in Japan.

  • Vehicle Inspection & Parking Certificate

    Classified as a 250cc Light Motorcycle under Japanese regulations, this vehicle does not require a vehicle inspection (Shaken) or parking certificate.

  • Driver’s License Requirement

    A standard Japanese driver’s license (Regular Automobile License) is required to operate this vehicle.

  • Helmet Requirement

    As this vehicle is legally classified as an automobile under Japanese traffic law, helmet use is generally not required.

  • Expressway Access

    As this vehicle is legally classified as an automobile in Japan, it is allowed to travel on expressways.
